Let us cross to the other side of the lake. – Mark 4:35 (NLT)
CROSS TO THE OTHER SIDE
A poem and essay by ILMA
What trials and sorrows have you gone through?
Did it result in your search for God and his truth?
Jesus can bring you to a better place than where you are
Just cross to the other side with him, it’s not that far.
He will walk you through the changes and challenges
Trust and obey him, you are loved and are precious
Hold his hands as you face the new life he has given you
Let him lead you a changed heart and mind that is renewed.

Methathesiophoia is the fear of change or changing things. The origin of the word comes from Greek ‘meta’ meaning change and ‘phobos’ meaning fear. This specific phobia can reduce one’s will to live. Metathesiophobes often feel they have no control over their lives due to constant changes. She or he tends to live in the past and exhibit depression. Their phobia debilitates them to move to progress or to change anything from routine. The fear of change is natural to humans. Man has liked routine. Our internal predispositions such as heredity and genetics teach us to resist change mainly to ‘always feel in control’. Let go of control and let Christ lead you to a full life as he had planned for you.
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for leading me to embrace your plans for me.
REFLECTION
How can we learn to let go of fear and step into God’s future for us?

WHEN YOU CALL ON JESUS Poem Devotional
February 23________________________________________
He made you holy by means of Christ Jesus just as he did for all people everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours. -1 Corinthians 1:2 (NLT)
WHEN YOU CALL ON JESUS
A poem and essay by ILMA
Jesus was sent to mankind to make us holy
He came amongst us to cleanse us from any folly
When you call on Jesus, you will have peace
When you call on Jesus, you will be able to see.
Whenever his name is praised and uttered
He comes to help his sisters and brothers
When you call on Jesus, he listens to your plea
So speak up and say his name and you will free.
________________________________________
There is so power in the name of Jesus. If only people will witness the authority that his name brings, I think they call on his name more often. Just recently, I have been having challenges seeing someone I love so much and was prohibited to have a close contact with her. Since this person is still under authority of her parents, her hands were tied as well to have to see me. So, I called on Jesus, and have other Christian friends pray over the situation. Out of the blue, she was given permission to spend the night with me. When you call on Jesus, he will heed your call. His name has supremacy.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, you are worthy of praise.
REFLECTION
How often do you call on Jesus?

THE GREATEST RESCUER Poem Devotional
January 24________________________________________
For you have rescued me from my troubles and helped me to triumph over my enemies.
-Psalm 54:7(NLT)
THE GREATEST RESCUER
A poem and essay by ILMA
What troubles do you need to bring to the throne?
Are they concerning a struggle or does it involve someone?
Are there people persecuting you because of Jesus?
Do you run to the cross to ask help and sing praises?
God is our strength, our rescuer and defender
He is faithful to the body of all believers
Don’t lose hope when you are attacked
If you run to Christ, you will have no lack.
________________________________________
To rescue is defined as to save someone from a dangerous or distressing situation. The Hebrew word for rescue is “yasha” which means deliverance, salvation, safety, welfare. The Hebrew meaning covers a bigger act of saving someone. Deliverance is defined as “a rescue from bondage or danger.” Deliverance in the Bible is the acts of God rescuing his people from peril. Have you ever been rescued by someone from a dangerous situation?
I come from a country where there is so much disasters and catastrophe. A rescuer is a novelty in the Philippines because almost everyone experience danger, so we rescue our own selves.
The bible tells us how God is the greatest rescuer for all believers. He delivers us from all kinds of evil, strongholds and sins that keep us in bondage. He frees us from suffering.
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for rescuing me from all my sins.
REFLECTION
What has God freed you from lately?

MEETING JESUS IN THE CLOUDS Poem Devotional
December 13________________________________________
Then together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever.
-1 Thessalonians 4:17(NLT)
MEETING JESUS IN THE CLOUDS
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you visualize how it would be on the day of the Lord’s coming?
There will be much joy to believers and those who are faithful
Christ will show himself to all while he is descending
The announcement will be delegated to the archangel.
First, he will command those who have died to arise
Then, he will call all those who are still alive
There will be a grand meeting up in the clouds
Jesus will lead all the faithful to rise with him up above.

I am a visual person and I once saw a painting of the day of the Lord’s coming from an Asian artist. I had memorized in my heart and mind that this artist’s interpretation of what will really happen. When I saw this painting, I didn’t study much the bible, but now that I do, I realize how accurate his interpretation of end times was.
I used to be scared to think of the end times but now that I know that the saints will meet Jesus in the clouds, I am looking forward to it with much excitement.
PRAYER
Lord, help me prepare for your second coming.
REFLECTION
What have you done to make yourself ready for Christ’s second coming?

JESUS, NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES Poem Devotional
November 10________________________________________
And she will have a son and you are to name him Jesus for he will save his people from their sins. – Matthew 1:21 (NLT)
JESUS, NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES
A poem and essay by ILMA
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus your name has power
You make Satan and all his principalities cower
You are powerful and your name is above all names
You have sacrificed your life to remove all kinds of shame.
You save all people from their old life and past sins
You gave us all a clean slate so we can recover and win
Praise you Jesus, you are the epitome of humility
Help us to become like you as we relate to others daily.

What’s in a name? I think a lot of people do not realize the importance of a name. A name can put an imprint on that person who received it. In the past, many Catholics named their babies after saints. Mary, Christina, Maria, Christian, Christie, Mari and many more variations of the same original name were used by parents so that their child will follow the virtues that these saints have lived. My name was coined after the first two letters from both my mother and father’s names. Later on, I learned that it meant “water.” What a privilege that my name means that I am cleansed and I can clean as well. The bible tells us that Jesus is a name above all names.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank you for the power in your name.
REFLECTION
Relate a time when you saw the power in Jesus’ name.

CALL ON THE LORD Poem Devotional
October 1________________________________________
The Lord always keeps his promises; he is gracious in all he does. The Lord is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him in truth. – Psalm 145: 13,18 (NLT)
CALL ON THE LORD
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you feel down and low
Don’t delay but run to the Lord
He always keeps his promises
He is merciful and constantly gracious.
The Lord is close to all who call on him
He hears them and forgives their sins
See him and his truth then you’ll be free
Release yourself from bondage and misery.
________________________________________
Have you ever relied and depended on someone so badly and got disappointed. Humans can sometimes be unreliable and untrue to what they say. Some people are bad at keeping their promises and have no integrity or honesty. I used to expect those who I am in relationship with to fulfill my needs. It just made my life more miserable each time those expectations were never met or even minimized. I learned to take care of myself and never depended on anyone. For a while, I isolated myself from others because I had so bad experiences with people.
The bible tells us that there is only one person who could be trusted and whom we can depend on and never be let down. God keeps his promises and is always gracious. He’s close to all who call on him.
PRAYER
Lord, let me always remember to call on you.
REFLECTION
Why do you think it is important to God for us to call on him?

RESTORED FRIENDSHIP Poem Devotional
September 9________________________________________
For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. -Romans 5:10 (NLT)
RESTORED FRIENDSHIP
A poem and essay by ILMA
What did the sacrifice on the cross bring about?
Didn’t it cancel all your sins and doubts?
Christ’s death restored our friendship
With his blood, we remain in his kinship.
Jesus saved us while we were still his enemies
He set the example for obedience and humility
We will certainly be saved through Jesus’ life
Abide in him and you will enjoy his peace and light.

A friend is defined as a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard. They are people who you enjoy and like to be with. They are there for you through thick or thin. They support you, your beliefs and would protect you from harm and encourage you to grow. When I was in the Philippines I had many friends. When I came to Canada, my notion of friendship have changed because God changed me too.
The bible tells us that our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies. It is through Jesus’ life that we will be saved. His death on the cross restored our relationship with God. Isn’t it a privilege to be called the friend of God?
PRAYER
Jesus, thank you for your sacrifice on the cross.
REFLECTION
How intimate is your friendship with God?

WISDOM PROTECTS Poem Devotional
April 30
________________________________________
Get wisdom; develop good judgment. Don’t forget my words or turn away from them. Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her and she will guard you.
-Proverbs 4:5-6 (NLT)
WISDOM PROTECTS
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you run to God’s word for guidance?
Obeying Scriptures will keep sin at a distance
Good judgment is developed from the truth
It leads to wisdom and the Spirit’s fruit.
Don’t turn away from God’s revelations
It guards you from succumbing to temptations
Seek God and his word and it will protect you
It keeps your heart pure and your mind renewed.
________________________________________
So many people live today without guidance from God. No wonder their lives are all messed up. It is a very dangerous and risky thing to go through life without a map. Just like tourists needs a guide and a map to traverse to a new place, we also need the word or God and his truth to navigate to our destination in this world. Some people do not realize the power of Scriptures to guide us to live the life that God wants for us.
The book of Proverbs emphasizes the importance of wisdom and good judgment in our lives. When we turn to God’s word, we automatically get protection from the world’s view.
PRAYER
Lord, help me navigate to your will for my life.
REFLECTION
What will happen if we do not run to the word for wisdom and guidance?

WISDOM RESULTS FROM DISCIPLINE Poem Devotional
April 4
Only a fool despises a parent’s discipline; whoever learns from correction is wise.
– Proverbs 15:5(NLT)
WISDOM RESULTS FROM DISCIPLINE
A poem and essay by ILMA
Have you ever defied your parent’s instructions?
Do you find yourself in many adverse situation?
Wisdom results from following the wise
It will benefit your life if you listen to good advice.
Only a fool despises his parent’s discipline
It usually breeds poverty and suffering
If you honor your parents, your life will go well
If you defy correction, pain and conflicts dwell.
The spirit of rebellion and stubbornness ran in my family of origin. I didn’t know that they were sins until the Lord showed me. 1 Samuel 15:23 says that Rebellion is a sinful as witchcraft and stubbornness as bad as worshipping idols. This biblical verse confirms the gravity of these sins. The saga of the Israelites to reach the Promised Land took longer because of these sins. God considers disobedience or defiance as a form of rebellion. Romans 13:1-2 says that everyone must submit to authority for all authority comes from God and anyone who rebels to authority is rebelling against God and will be punished.
Proverbs 15:5 says that whoever learns from correction is wise and only fools despise their parents’ discipline. This saying brings to us to Ephesians 6:2-3 which commands us to honor our parents so things will go well for us if and have long lives.
PRAYER
Lord, show me how to obey.
REFLECTION
Why do you think God wants us to obey our parents?

STAY FREE FROM SLAVERY Poem Devotional
January 10
So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law. – Galatians 5:1 (NLT)
STAY FREE FROM SLAVERY
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you believed Christ, he made you free
Don’t get tied up again in any form of slavery
Make sure you are regularly seeking God’s Word
It makes you have victory over this corrupt world.
Humanity brings about many forms of bondage
If you are a true believer, you have an advantage
The law that used to enslave you has no more power over you
Love rules your life and the Spirit helps you see God’s view.
When you become a born again Christian, you are given the promise of freedom from any fear or form of slavery. That is the reason why Christ died for you. He gave you freedom so you can use it to exercise love and care for each other and not to serve your own purpose.
The bible tells us that Christ has truly set us free. He wants us to stay free and not tied up again in slavery to the law. It means that we don’t have to be legalistic and strictly following it just to appear good. That’s why he summed all laws to “Love God above all, then love your neighbor as yourself.”
PRAYER
Lord, help me when I am being legalistic.
REFLECTION
How can you enjoy freedom God’s way?
