But God released him from the horrors of death and raised him back to life, for death could not keep him in its grip. –Acts 2:24(NLT)
RELEASED FROM DEATH
A poem and essay by ILMA
What forms of death are you going through?
Does your heart needs to be renewed?
Living in sin can bring death in your life
Only in Jesus Christ can you have light
God released his Son from the horrors of death
He will also deliver you and ransom you from debts
God will keep his promise to free you from bondage
Repent and confess your sins and bring him homage.
________________________________________
So many people fear the horrors of death. Some individuals do not even discuss the subject of death because they are afraid to even think about it. I was a fearless child. When my parents attend funerals, they can’t even look at the coffin of the deceased because of so many superstitious beliefs. As young as four or five, I remember asking some of my relatives to carry me so I can look at the dead body. Deep inside me, I wanted to pray for these people and feel happy that they are with God already. I secretly wished I follow soon too so I can see Jesus.
The bible says that God released Jesus from the horrors of death and raised him back to life. Death had no grip on anyone who belongs to him.
PRAYER
Lord, let me be brave to face anything for you.
REFLECTION
What forms of death have God released you from?

REBELLION IS UNGRATEFULNESS Poem Devotional

The children I raised and cared for have rebelled against me. My people don’t recognize my care for them. – Isaiah 1:2,3 (NLT)
REBELLION IS UNGRATEFULNESS
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you ponder on God’s goodness and love for you?
Do you thank him for all things old and new?
When God’s children do not see his blessings
It is a form of ungratefulness and rebelling.
Are you grateful for what he has done?
Do you accept and believe in his Son?
Rebellion is ungratefulness at its best
Give it up and you’ll have joy and be blessed.
________________________________________
Rebellion ran in my family for many generations. It has brought havoc into my life in the past 4 decades. I am thankful that God has freed me from this stronghold. At the time I defied and disobeyed God, I was in a very dark pit. It was shameful what I have done during those moments that I allowed the enemy to run my life. The devil used my traumas to justify my disobedience. I wanted to prove those people who hurt me that I am strong and will not be broken. The painful events was the open door for the enemy to infiltrate my life and hold me captive for half of my life.
The bible described how God felt when his children do not recognize his love and care for them and rebelled against him.
PRAYER
Lord, free us from rebellion.
REFLECTION
Why is rebellion a form of ungratefulness?

I AM Poem Devotional

As Jesus said, “I am he,” they all drew back and fell to the ground. – John 18:6 (NLT)
I AM
A poem and essay by ILMA
Who can have much power as Jesus?
Every knee will bow and everyone will sing praises
He is the “I am”, the beginning and the end
“I am” existed even before God sent.
“I am” means the greatest of all things
His name has authority over sin
He is what is and what is to come
“I am” will make you overcome.

The word Ehyeh is used a total of 43 places in the Hebrew Bible, where it is often translated as “I will be” — as is the case for its first occurrence, in Genesis 26:3 — or “I shall be,” as is the case for its final occurrence in Zechariah 8:8. Used by God to identify himself in the Burning Bush, the importance placed on the phrase, as it is, stems from the Hebrew conception of monotheism that God exists by himself for himself, and is the uncreated Creator who is independent of any concept, force, or entity; therefore “I am who I am” (ongoing).
Have you ever encountered anyone as powerful as God? Jesus often asked his disciples the question, “Who do people say that I am?” Simon Peter answered “You are the Messiah, the son of the living God (Matthew 16:15-16). Jesus knew that it was God who revealed this answer to Simon Peter.
PRAYER
You are the great “I am.”
REFLECTION
Who do you say Jesus is to others?

WHY BETRAY? Poem Devotional

July 4 ________________________________________
Are we not all children of the same Father? Are we not all created by the same God? Then why do we betray each other, violating the covenant of our ancestors?
–Malachi 2:10 (NLT)
WHY BETRAY?
A poem and essay by ILMA
What part of yourself have you struggled accepting?
Do you ponder why you are not faithfully believing?
Why betray your creator instead of thanking him?
He only wants what is best so you will be redeemed.
Are we not all children of the same heavenly Father?
So why do we sometimes betray our sisters and brothers?
Why don’t we accept each other’s differences and strengths?
If we obey God’s commands, we will never be lost or bent?
________________________________________
One of the meanings of the word betray in Greek is “paradidomi” which means to deliver up one to custody, to be judged, condemned, punished, scourged, tormented, put to death or to give into the hands of another. Judas Iscariot is a perfect example of a betrayer of Jesus. Have you ever betrayed anyone in your life? Sometimes it is hard to recognize that you have betrayed someone. Gossiping about someone is a form of betrayal. Defying authority can also be another type of betrayal. Divulging someone else’s request to keep something in secret is obviously a form of betrayal. Idolatry of other gods apart from our one true god is another example. We all come from one creator, so why betray?
PRAYER
Lord, show me how to be faithful.
REFLECTION
What forms of betrayals have you struggled with?

I will restore them because of my compassion. It will be as though I had never rejected them, for I am the Lord their God, who will hear their cries. – Zechariah 10:6 (NLT)
FILLED WITH COMPASSION
A poem and essay by ILMA
Are you feeling down with so much suffering?
Has the world’s demand been very challenging?
Don’t worry, the Lord promised to restore you
He never rejects any of his creation
For he is full of love and compassion.
He hears your cries for mercy and pardon
He will grant you forgiveness and freedom
He will forgive and forget your past sins
As long as you confess, you will be redeemed.
________________________________________
There were many years in my life that I experienced trauma in many different forms. It was very difficult to navigate to life with all these scars. When my son was born, all the effects of the traumas which date back as far as two years old started to crawl up on me. Thank God that his spirit guided me all through those trials and sufferings. He restored me and had compassion over me when I ran to him and depended on him on everything especially raising my son alone. I made a vow to God that he will be my perfect husband so I could be a good parent to my child. He was faithful to fulfill his part raising my son and hearing all my cries for help.
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for hearing my cries.
REFLECTION
How has God shown you compassion?

CALL ON JESUS Poem Devotional

But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. – Joel 2:32 (NLT)
CALL ON JESUS
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you know what it takes to be saved?
Just believe and you will cease to be a slave
Everyone who calls on his name will be free
They will experience his power and peace.
Call on Jesus and his spirit will live in you
You will have authority and bear fruit
Allow him to be your Lord and Saviour
You will be granted eternal life forever.
________________________________________
Many unbelievers think that it takes a lot to be saved. The enemy has blinded them to think that it is hard work to be a Christian. Their minds are twisted to believe that they have to do all the effort to be good. What they don’t know is that Christ already died on the cross to free us from sin and paid the price with his blood. I have been a believer since I was seven years old but was made to believe that I need to do good to gain God’s love and to have points to go to heaven. This is a spirit of performance that the enemy plants on people so that they won’t be totally free from his clout. All we need to do is call on Jesus’ name and allow him to be our Lord and Savior.
PRAYER
Thank you for saving me Lord.
REFLECTION
Relate an incident when experienced the saving power of Christ.

CONSEQUENCES Poem Devotional

stormy clouds 2012 094

July 1 ________________________________________
The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil; he will erase their memory from the earth. – Psalm 34:15-16 (NLT)
CONSEQUENCES
A poem and essay by ILMA
What choices have you made that brought penalties?
Are they the consequence of your selfishness or cruelty?
Whenever we try to live out of God’s righteousness
We will experience difficulties and loneliness.
The eyes of the Lord watches over those who do right
He is open to their cries for help and he never takes it light
God turns his face against those who do evil
Memories are erased if you chose to be a rebel.
________________________________________Most of my life’s difficulties and suffering were the result of living against the will of God. It took so much adversities before I finally succumbed to God’s call for my obedience. I didn’t know that the secret to a peaceful and happy life is to make him first in everything. Just like parents give consequences to their children’s behavior, God also does the same thing to us. He warns us but still gives us the leeway to choose. If we choose within his truth, we reap a harvest. In the book of Psalms, we are cautioned to make the right choice. God rewards and help the righteous but he erases the memory of those who do evil.
PRAYER
Lord, lead me to do the right thing always.

What wrong choices have you made that you regretted?________________________________________

PRECIOUS TRUTH Poem Devotional

Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within you, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you. 2 Timothy 1:14 (NLT)
PRECIOUS TRUTH
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you accepted Jesus as your Savior
You were delivered from the deceiver
God’s precious truth will set you free
All lies will be exposed and will help you see
When God’s spirit lives within your heart
You have to live by the truth and guard
Keep the Spirit alive by protecting these truth
You will eventually reap a harvest of the Spirit’s fruit.
________________________________________
Have you ever guarded a treasure or a possession so much? I used to care for my very first guitar in my early teens. It was so precious to me that I never let anyone hold it without my permission or borrow it. I would always have a special cloth to clean it regularly. It shines so well that you could use it for a mirror. I played for the church choir using this guitar for around a decade. I made sure it was handled with care. God’s word should also be handled with care and ensured protection from this corrupted and evil world.
The bible tells us that through the Spirit’s power, we can carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to us. We must know, obey and live by these truth.
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for your truth.
REFLECTION
How can you guard God’s truth?

CORNERSTONE Poem Devotional

port elgin camping 2012 358

June 29 ________________________________________
The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone. –Acts 4:11(NLT)
CORNERSTONE
A poem and essay by ILMA
Have you ever been hurt by someone’s oppression?
Do you feel intimidated by people’s discrimination?
Jesus Christ himself was rejected by the religious
He was considered trash instead of precious.
Christ is the cornerstone that the builders rejected
He died for all those who are oppressed and dejected
Cling to Jesus and your bondage will be set free
He will bring you into light and you will see.
________________________________________
I think that each person has somehow experienced rejection or being discriminated in some form or another. Many mental illnesses are caused by this terrible experience of oppression or being put down. The only way we can alleviate the pain of it is by being in the truth that only God can give. The enemy wants to kill and destroy us. He doesn’t want us to seek God and hunger for his words because it will expose all the lies that he tells us.
Just like any other human being, Christ was rejected, oppressed, tortured and killed. He is close to the broken hearted and rescues those whose spirits are crushed (Psalm 34:18). He was rejected by the builders as the cornerstone. The religious was threatened by him and wanted him dead and destroyed because they didn’t really understand his kingdom. They didn’t know that he was the foundation of the church.
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for being my root.
REFLECTION
How have you rejected Christ in your life?

A THOUGHTFUL GOD Poem Devotional

port elgin camping 2012 474June 28 ________________________________________
Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered. – Psalm 139:16-17 (NLT)
A THOUGHTFUL GOD
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you sometimes feel unloved and abandoned?
Has someone let you down for very long?
Have you ever been cared for unconditionally?
Be glad for your God thinks about you relentlessly.
Every day of your life is recorded in your own book
He takes note what you go through in your life’s nooks
He thinks about you day and night and cares much
He is a thoughtful God who gives you love in a batch.
________________________________________
Have you ever experienced being loved and thought of with much passion? I once had a person who deeply cared for me. We had a long distance relationship but I had never been close with anyone as I was with him. He loved me so unconditionally and trusted me completely. The best thing I remembered about this man was how much he thought of me. He called me three times a day for over a year even if we were miles apart. He was always thinking about me and telling everyone he meets about me. He made me feel very loved and thought of.
The bible described how passionately God loves us. He knows every detail of our life and thinks of us always.
PRAYER
Lord, teach me thoughtfulness.
REFLECTION
How often do you think of God each day?
