January 25________________________________________
Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked. – Luke 6:35(NLT)
ON LOVING THE UNKIND
A poem and essay by ILMA
Whenever someone demeans or attack you
Do you run to God so he can change your views?
Hurt people inflict pain to their sisters or brothers
They embrace agony and can’t show love for others.
Love your enemies, pray and do good to them
You will be rewarded by acting as God’s true children
God is kind even to those who are wicked and ungrateful
He wants us to follow him, to love others and be faithful.
________________________________________
It is easy to love those who are kind and loving but it is definitely a challenge to love the unkind and wicked. Any person could easily love someone who does good to them but the bible challenges us to love even those who are mean to us. It doesn’t mean that we will allow them to trample on us. God also taught us how to set boundaries with people around us so that we can live harmonious lives with each other. How is it possible to love those who are abusing or wicked to you? Only by God’s grace.
PRAYER
Lord, give me an unconditional heart like yours.
REFLECTION
How do you handle people who are unkind?

THE GREATEST RESCUER Poem Devotional
January 24________________________________________
For you have rescued me from my troubles and helped me to triumph over my enemies.
-Psalm 54:7(NLT)
THE GREATEST RESCUER
A poem and essay by ILMA
What troubles do you need to bring to the throne?
Are they concerning a struggle or does it involve someone?
Are there people persecuting you because of Jesus?
Do you run to the cross to ask help and sing praises?
God is our strength, our rescuer and defender
He is faithful to the body of all believers
Don’t lose hope when you are attacked
If you run to Christ, you will have no lack.

To rescue is defined as to save someone from a dangerous or distressing situation. The Hebrew word for rescue is “yasha” which means deliverance, salvation, safety, welfare. The Hebrew meaning covers a bigger act of saving someone. Deliverance is defined as “a rescue from bondage or danger.” Deliverance in the Bible is the acts of God rescuing his people from peril. Have you ever been rescued by someone from a dangerous situation?
I come from a country where there is so much disasters and catastrophe. A rescuer is a novelty in the Philippines because almost everyone experience danger, so we rescue our own selves.
The bible tells us how God is the greatest rescuer for all believers. He delivers us from all kinds of evil, strongholds and sins that keep us in bondage. He frees us from suffering.
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for rescuing me from all my sins.
REFLECTION
What has God freed you from lately?

THOSE WHO TRUST THE LORD Poem Devotional
January 22________________________________________
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like
eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
– Isaiah 40:31(NLT)
THOSE WHO TRUST THE LORD
A poem and essay by ILMA
Those who trust in the Lord will find new strength
They will follow the straight path and will not bend
They will soar high on wings like eagles
They won’t be defeated by life’s struggles.
Those who trust in the Lord will run and not grow weary
They will overcome all the tactics and tricks of the enemy
They will walk and not faint when there are troubles
They depend on God completely to get out of the rubbles.

Trust is a crucial element in relationships. It is through trust that we learn to be intimate and grow our love for each other. Without trust, there will be deceit, dishonesty, confusion, fear and all kinds of evil.
I had major trust issues in the past. I learned to look after my well being because no one was there to give it to me. It ruined most of my relationships because I was always suspicious and wanted to bust people of their intentions to me. Before they can hurt me, I would run away to protect myself.
The bible says that those who trust in the Lord will have new strength. They will soar and not grow weary.
PRAYER
Lord, teach me to completely trust you.
REFLECTION
How can you build up your trust in God?

POISONOUS ROOT OF BITTERNESS
January 21________________________________________
Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.
– Hebrews 12:15(NLT)
POISONOUS ROOT OF BITTERNESS
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you secretly have resentments on anyone?
Have you been affected and offended by someone?
Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness troubles you
This destructive root can distort all that is good and true.
Look after each other so you will receive God’s grace
God’s convictions can make you defeat the enemy and face
Forgive easily and you won’t be affected by bitterness
Confess and repent your sins to stay in God’s righteousness.

Do you know when someone is bitter? Do you know the root of anger, resentment, irritability, impatience, spirit of offense, envy and comparison, jealousy, legalism? These are just some of the manifestations of bitterness in your life. The sad thing about bitterness is that you are usually the last person to know. I had experienced all of the manifestations I just mentioned for many years without knowing that the root of it all is bitterness. When I started studying the bible, God convicted me of this stronghold in our family. The bible says that we must look after each other so that we won’t fail to receive the grace of God and to watch out that no root of bitterness troubles us.
PRAYER
Lord, protect me from bitterness.
REFLECTION
How can you cut the poisons of the root of bitterness in your life?

CRY OUT TO GOD Poem Devotional
January 19________________________________________
But in my distress I cried out to the Lord: yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears. -Psalm 18:6(NLT)
CRY OUT TO GOD
A poem and essay by ILMA
Whenever you have difficulties and pain
Do you cry out to God and call his name?
In your distress, run to Jesus Christ
He is the only one who can ease your life.
He hears you from his sanctuary
Only in him will we have victory
Don’t despair for he will never forsake you
He loves you so much; he is faithful and true.
________________________________________
To cry is defined by the dictionary as “to produce tears from your eyes often while making loud sounds because of pain, sorrow, or other strong emotions.” In the biblical perspective, crying out to God is a fervent expression of faith in God and trust in His goodness and power to act on your behalf. Crying out to God expresses dependence on him, humility, surrender and total helplessness. As opposed to the world’s view that crying is a form of weakness, the bible summons us to cry out to God for help. King David often cried out to God for help.
We are encouraged and instructed in the bible to run to God and ask him for help. Whenever we cry out to him, we acknowledge our weakness and his power.
PRAYER
Lord, I cry out for you to save my family.
REFLECTION
What benefit do we get when we cry out to God for help?

DECLARING YOUR LOVE FOR GOD Poem Devotional
January 20________________________________________
I love you Lord; you are my strength. – Psalm 18:1(NLT)
DECLARING YOUR LOVE FOR GOD
A poem and essay by ILMA
To you O God, I declare my love and loyalty
I have never been treated by anyone so faithfully
You are the greatest lover of all time
You are my strength and my guide.
I love you Lord and I give you my all
Help me never to be tempted to sin and fall
All that I am and all that I have will always praise you
Only in you can I be complete, holy and be renewed.
________________________________________
When you realized that you found the man or woman of your life, what was the first thing you did? Didn’t you declare your love for that person? You didn’t just use mental telepathy and hope he or she gets it right away. You had to utter the words “I love you,” so you can tell this special someone that you are seriously committing to him or her. Especially when you get married, your vows to each other always declares the love you have for each other. It solidifies your feelings and your sincerity.
The bible talks about how King David often declared his love for God in his Psalms. Declaring his love for God reinforces his belief and faithfulness to him. Saying out loud that you love God creates intimacy and strength in our relationship with him.
PRAYER
I love you Lord with all my heart and soul.
REFLECTION
How often do you express your love for God?

GOD’S WILL IS OUR DESTINY Poem Devotional
January 18________________________________________
So he will do to me whatever he has planned. He controls my destiny. -Job 23:14(NLT)
GOD’S WILL IS OUR DESTINY
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you have any idea where God wants you to be?
Have you reflected on his word so you can see?
Our God is a god who is transparent
He tells us what is already apparent.
The Lord controls all our destiny
He wants us to defeat the enemy
He doesn’t like us to be continually in pain
He wants us to grow up and not live in vain.

In Greek Mythology, Zeus was the first of the gods and a very imposing figure. Often referred to as the “Father of Gods and men”, he is a sky god who controls lightning (often using it as a weapon) and thunder. Zeus is king of Mount Olympus, the home of Greek gods, where he rules the world and imposes his will onto gods and mortals alike.
Unlike Zeus, our heavenly father doesn’t impose his will on us humans. He gave us free will to choose which way we want our lives to go. He loves us so much that he wants us to enjoy the life that he planned for us to have. This is why he gave Jesus Christ to us so we can be close to fulfilling our destinies. In Job 23, Job responded to his friend what he thinks of God controlling his destiny.
PRAYER
Lord, make me follow your will always.
REFLECTION
Why is it important to align our will with God’s?

HE KNOWS WHERE I AM GOING Poem Devotional
January 17________________________________________
But he knows where I am going. And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold. For I have stayed on God’s paths; I have followed his ways and not turned aside.
– Job 23:10-11(NLT)
HE KNOWS WHERE I AM GOING
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you know where you are going?
Do you serve the Lord and keep on praising?
Many people don’t know their destination
They live a life of chaos and confusion.
God knows where exactly we are going
We may not be aware but he is leading
Follow Jesus Christ and you will never be lost
He gave his only begotten Son at a high cost.

According to an article written in Daily Mail, Paul Kendall said: For as long as road maps have been around, men have complained that women cannot read them. Now a team of scientists have concluded that there are very real biological reasons behind the cause of numerous in-car arguments. The researchers claim that ‘spatial intelligence’ is seriously affected by the female hormone oestrogen.
Many people both men and women alike cannot navigate through life easily. The bible says that if we follow God’s lead, he will lead us to a life that he promised. It is only the Lord who knows what is best for us and if we abide in him, we won’t be lost. We will learn to traverse through life effortlessly.
PRAYER
Lord, pick me up when I get lost in this world.

What did God do to rescue you when you got lost?

FILTER YOUR MOUTH Poem Devotional
January 16________________________________________
And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! – James 3:10(NLT)
FILTER YOUR MOUTH
A poem and essay by ILMA
What kind of things does your mouth utter?
It is to edify God and help your sisters and brothers?
Do you bless someone with your words?
Have cursed out of your mouth according to the world?
Filter your mouth or you will be enslaved by this evil
It is used to persuade to lie to others by the devil
From the same mouth can come curses and blessings
Use it to praise God and to continue worshiping.
________________________________________
When we drink water, we usually want to make sure that it is filtered to ensure our health. I wish we could do the same with what comes out of our mouth. If we can have a filter in our mouths to ensure that we don’t hurt anyone with that comes out of it. Matthew 15:11 says that “It’s not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth.” Verse 18 says “But the words you speak come from the heart-that’s what defiles you.” Clearly, we need to filter what comes out of our mouths because it usually states the condition of our hearts. James emphasizes that we should never allow both curses and blessings to come pouring out of the same mouth.
PRAYER
Lord, let your words be the filter of my mouth.
REFLECTION
How can you filter your mouth from unkind words?
