ON GRIEVING THE HOLY SPIRIT Poem Devotional

Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit and you kept some of the money to yourself. – Acts 5:3(NLT)
ON GRIEVING THE HOLY SPIRIT
A poem and essay by ILMA
If you are a believer, you don’t want to grieve God’s Spirit
The Lord wants you to heed his commands and always believe
Live a life of obedience, love and persistent humility
Then you will keep the Holy Spirit inside you constantly.
Do not bring sorrow to God’s spirit by the way you live
Get rid of all bitterness, follow his word and so you can see
Be kind to others and forgive them just as God has forgiven you
Be mindful of his presence and your mind will be renewed.
________________________________________
This verse gives us a picture how Ananias grieved the Holy Spirit. He lied and allowed Satan to corrupt his heart with the love of money. Acts 5 tells us the detailed story how Ananias and Sapphira conspired to test God’s Spirit and as a result, they bought paid a high price by their deaths. They lied about how much money they got from selling their land. They thought they were just lying to the people but were actually lying to God.
Ephesians 4:30-31 tells us what can bring sorrow to the Holy Spirit: bitterness, anger, harsh words, slander and all types of evil behavior. Verse 32 tells us how to please God’s Spirit.

THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT Poem Devotional

Now all of you can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us. -Ephesians 2:18(NLT)
THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT
A poem and essay by ILMA
Through the Holy Spirit, we can come to the Lord
He made this possible when Christ died on the cross
All of you who believe in God have the Spirit inside you
In faith, he transforms you and make your life new.
Through the Holy Spirit, you can get revelations
Without his help, you will succumb to temptations
Through God’s Spirit, you are given authority
It is only by accepting him will you have victory.
________________________________________
I have been guided and directed by the Holy Spirit since I accepted Jesus when I was seven years old. It may seem unreal to some people about how I was literally pulled out from many occasions of traumas and abuse by God’s Spirit. Even at that very young age, I was given instructions through my regular talking with Jesus. I believe that even when I didn’t read the bible until I was in my late twenties, the Holy Spirit kept watch over me and taught me how to thrive despite the circumstances surrounding me. He built me up and if not for his guidance, I will not be where I am today.
Paul speaks about our right standing with God through Jesus’ blood which allowed him to live inside us.

GIVER OF ETERNAL LIFE Poem Devotional

The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And that very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life. -John 6:63(NLT)
GIVER OF ETERNAL LIFE
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you give much focus on human effort?
Do you pay more attention to God’s word?
Do achievements make you feel worthy?
The Spirit alone gives life and bring forth victory.
Human accomplishments are meaningless
The Spirit knows and aims always what’s best
Do not grieve the Spirit of God by deception
He alone leads you to you own redemption.
________________________________________
Do you believe every truth the word of God says? During the forty days of fasting of Jesus, the devil tempted him to turn the stones into bread. He replied to the devil that man does not live by bread alone but by the word that comes from the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4). Some believers do not totally believe all that comes from Scripture. I know someone who conveniently twist and take truth out of context to suit his comfort level. Some people like to change words that feels harsh or hard to face. They fix the word to make it easier for them.
The bible says that the Spirit alone gives eternal life. He alone also reveals truth and leads us to life everlasting. No human effort will be a passport to eternity. Only the Spirit of God grants it.

PRAYER
Lord, give me wisdom to hear the Spirit’s convictions.

The Lord knows those who are his, and all who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil. -2 Timothy 2:19(NLT)
GOD KNOW HIS PEOPLE
A poem and essay by ILMA
Before you were born, God has a plan for you
He created each part of your being for his glory
Allow him to transform you and make you new
Turn away from evil so you can have victory.
You can not run away from his purpose for your life
Maybe you should pursue the way of Jesus Christ
God loves you immensely and longs for your company
Do you spend precious moments to create intimacy?

We all know the story of the Israelites, the people whom God calls as his own. In the book of Exodus, we discover that an eleven-day journey to the promised land took them forty long years to reach it. What made it that long? Many sins and strongholds kept them from focusing on the promises of the Lord. They are stubborn, complaining, dissatisfied, unfaithful, ungrateful, didn’t trust the Lord enough. When they crossed the Red Sea and God delivered them from the Egyptians who enslaved them, it didn’t take long when they started to grumble to Moses that they should have stayed as slaves in Egypt. God forgave them and was faithful. It took a long time to reach their destination because they focused on selfish and worldly things.

YOU DON’T OWN YOURSELF Poem Devotional

You do not belong to yourself. For God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NLT)
YOU DON’T OWN YOURSELF
A poem and essay by ILMA
God created you for his kingdom plan
He bought you with the sacrifice of his Son
You don’t belong to yourself, he owns you
Honor your body and let your mind be renewed.
Stop thinking you can do anything with your body
Honor him by focusing to him all of your abilities
You bring him praise by sharing the gifts he gave you
He is gloried when you acknowledge him and heed the truth.
________________________________________
How often have you thought that your body is your own? For many years, I thought that way. As a result of this kind of thinking, I did many things to my body that didn’t really honor the Lord. I used it so I can edify my own self. I honed my skills and gifts to get attention from others and prove I was worthy. I was vain and shallow in adorning myself with superficial things. I didn’t realize that true beauty lies in following the truth of God’s word and living a life of integrity. I thank God that he revealed to me this stinking thinking and made me realize how much he bought me back with a high price. Now, I do my best to honor him with my body.

Lord, always remind me that I don’t own my whole being.

CONSEQUENCE OF A RECKLESS LIFE Poem Devotional

He will die for lack of self-control; he will be lost because of his great foolishness.
-Proverbs 5:23(NLT)
CONSEQUENCE OF A RECKLESS LIFE
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you decide to go on a road to selfishness
You will find it easy to do all kinds of wickedness
It may seem enticing to satisfy all your selfish desires
But you will suffer the consequences of it later on in life.
When you don’t exercise self-control; you’ll suffer penalties
Relationships will end because of your selfishness and cruelty
When you live a life of lawlessness and abandon
You may lose your inheritance in God’s kingdom.

When you drive your vehicle without following any rules or speeding as much as you want to, what happens? You may get a ticket for speeding, collide with another vehicle and cause an accident, or you may destroy your vehicle during the reckless ride. The most fatal thing that can happen is you die or someone else dies because of your lawless driving. Isn’t the same thing true with the way we live our lives? We all go through teenage years and when we do, we almost always do many foolish things because we are reckless. Eventually, when we have had enough loses because of these reckless living, we may learn wisdom from our mistakes. A foolish person doesn’t think far back to the future. They live without limits causing downfall.

TRUE WISDOM

________________________________________
But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. – James 3:17(NLT)
TRUE WISDOM
A poem and essay by ILMA
True wisdom comes from knowing God
It is good and focuses on manifesting love
It shows no favoritism and is peace loving
It displays mercy and is always yielding.
True wisdom from above is pure and sincere
It is simple, never hazy but always clear
It leads us to a life that lasts forever
It truly makes us grow closer to our creator.
________________________________________
The world we live in today focuses much on acquisition of knowledge. It sets a standard for people to ensure that they follow the world’s ways. It emphasizes a focus on the “self” rather than on truth. The book of James gives us a clear picture of what true wisdom from above is. It is pure and uncorrupted by the world’s measuring stick. When you have the wisdom that comes from God, it is peace loving, gentle and willing to yield to others. In other words, it is not selfish. It is merciful and shows no biases and is always honest and sincere. Many people mistake knowledge for wisdom. They are not the same. We can only have true wisdom when we apply the truth that comes from God’s word.

Grant me the ability to discern and apply your truth.

BIND YOUR SPIRIT WITH GOD Poem Devotional

Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit binding yourselves.
-Ephesians 4:3(NLT)
BIND YOUR SPIRIT WITH GOD
A poem and essay by ILMA
What makes you distracted from being united in Christ?
Are you prioritizing the important things in life?
Keep yourselves constantly joined in his spirit
Then he will give you strength to overcome sin.
Do everything to keep yourselves pure from the world
Constantly seek God and be guided through his word
Don’t give in to the lies that will make you go astray
Seek God and obey his truth in all things each passing day.
________________________________________
Whoever we decide to join ourselves with will have a big influence on us and our lives. That is why the saying “Birds of the same feather flock together” holds partially true. You wouldn’t bind yourself with someone who totally represent the opposite ideals you have. Even the bible says in 2 Corinthians 6:14 that evil and good don’t belong together. Christians must be careful who they associate themselves with because God tells us that we must never have any participation in wickedness in Ephesians 5:11. So, how come some believers bind themselves with other kinds of spirit? When we disobey God’s commands, we are creating a barrier between us and the Lord. When we take part in things that God prohibits, we are defying him. We are asked to make every effort to keep ourselves united with God’s Spirit.

Lord, let me never stray from you.

GOD’S PATIENCE Poem Devotional

And remember, the Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved. -2Peter 3:15(NLT)
GOD’S PATIENCE
A poem and essay by ILMA
The Lord is patient with his people
He gives them time to overcome evil
Whenever you lose hope in your situation
He will be there to give you solutions.
God’s patience allows us to grow and mature
Don’t dwell in the negative and stay pure
He knows you and gives a way out of sin
Pursue him so you can become more like him.
________________________________________
Have you ever met someone who has all the patience in the world? I was surrounded by impatient people for many years of my life. I learned their impatience and lived it for decades. I seriously believe that the root of impatience is pride and entitlement. People lose their cool when they are ignored or their expectations are not met. It is a way that the enemy lures us with thinking more of ourselves rather than pleasing the Lord and serving others. Nowhere in the bible does it say that we ought to love ourselves first than God and others. In fact, we are summoned to love the Lord with everything we got, and then our neighbors just as we love ourselves. The bible also says in romans 12:3 that we should not think we are better than others. God is patient with us so why can’t we be patient with others as well?

Teach me patience Lord in dealing with others.

GOD’S REPRIMAND Poem Devotional

You rebuke the arrogant; those who wander from your commands are cursed.
-Psalm 119:21(NLT)
GOD’S REPRIMAND
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you are a child of God, you listen
He rebukes those who are self-sufficient
He will confront you when you are arrogant
When you turn from his laws, you are a vagrant.
God disciplines all those whom he loves
All forms of lawlessness don’t bring him laud
Heed his reprimand so you won’t fall into sin
Obey his commands and you will have peace.
________________________________________
I used to be a rebel and was on a crusade to prove I was right. It struggled when I was growing up because my voice wasn’t heard. I wasn’t shown love and attention. It probably contributed to my stubbornness. I was shielding myself from the pain from the many let-downs and neglect I experienced. My parents disciplined me out of fear and not out of love. It was more about “following the rules or else” kind of reprimand that I grew up with. I left home by the time I was old enough to take care of myself so I could be my own boss. I didn’t know that I fed the enemy more ammunitions to be more lawless. I didn’t know God’s truth then so I believed the many lies the enemy told me. I thank God that he delivered me from pride and re-routing me back to his path. He rebuked me so I won’t stray.

Lord, thank you for always guiding me to take the right path.
