GOD’S POWER AND JUSTICE Poem Devotional

November 11
________________________________________
The Lord is slow to get angry, but his power is great, and he never lets the guilty go unpunished. – Nahum 1:3(NLT)
GOD’S POWER AND JUSTICE
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you faithfully seek the Lord?
Are you meditating on his word?
God is slow to anger but is fair
Do not test him or disobey.
The Lord deals with sin fairly
So don’t treat others unjustly
He won’t allow the guilty go unpunished
Confess and repent so he can give you mercy.
________________________________________
Some people think that because God is merciful and loving, they can get away with sin. He hates sin. He loves us all but he doesn’t want us to participate in any form of evil or lawlessness. That is why he gave us Christ so that we can believe in him and be new. We need not go back to our old self which is by nature sinful. If we committed ourselves to Christ, we have the privilege to be forgiven right away and be cleansed by his blood. Some lax Christians think that God loves them and will forgive them easily, so they can just do the evil they planned and ask forgiveness. In the book of Nahum, we are warned that he never lets the guilty go unpunished. Though God is slow to anger, it doesn’t mean that he is partial. He advocates the law of sowing and reaping.

PRAYER
Lord, remind me always how sin can draw us away from you.
REFLECTION
How can you avoid being a lax Christian?

CRYING OUT LOUD

November 9
________________________________________
While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God. -Hebrews 5:7(NLT)
CRYING OUT LOUD
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you call out on your Lord when you have troubles?
Do you plead him to get you out of the rubble?
While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings
He shouted out to God to be rescued from immense suffering.
God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence
He acknowledged his humility and dependence
Cry out lout to the heavenly Father; he will hear you
Confess and repent of your sins and he will make you new.
________________________________________
When you hear your baby cry, your first impulse is to attend to him or her. You try to find out what the baby needs and meet that as soon as you can. Our heavenly Father is the same to us. When we cry out to him for help, he runs as fast as he can to answer that plea. He doesn’t have a deaf ear to our complaints and concerns. He hears every detail of our situation. How often do Christians even cry out loud to the Lord? The book of Psalms is full of David’s crying out loud to God and pleading to be rescued.

PRAYER
Lord, I ask you to hear my cries for help.

When did God answer your cries?

ON REJECTING THE GOOD NEWS Poem Devotional

November 7
________________________________________
And God will provide rest for you who are being persecuted and also for us when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven, He will come with his mighty angels, in flaming fire, bringing judgement on those who don’t know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus. – 2 Thessalonians 1:7-8(NLT)
ON REJECTING THE GOOD NEWS
A poem and essay by ILMA
Those who think that they know it all
They are proud and they’ll have a great fall
God gave us his Son so we can have eternal life
If you reject the Good News, you will eventually die.
The Lord provides rest to those who suffer for him
He promises them endless life and a piece of heaven
Jesus will come back to judge those who reject the gospel
They’ll forfeit God’s inheritance if they choose to follow evil.
________________________________________
John 1:14-15 tells us about the Good News. After John the Baptist was arrested, Jesus went into Galilee, where he preached God’s Good News. He announced that the promise of God has come at last. He says that God’s kingdom is near and that all must repent of their sins and believe the Good News. Those who will refuse to obey the message will be judged and lose their inheritance in God’s kingdom. It was Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross that will be our ticket to receive God’s inheritance.

PRAYER
Lord, let me be an instrument to spread your Good News.
REFLECTION
How have you responded to the Good News that will save you?

THE UPSIDE OF PERSECUTION Poem Devotional

November 6
________________________________________
And God will use this persecution to show his justice and to make you worthy of his Kingdom, for which you are suffering. In his justice, he will pay back those who persecute you. – 2 Thessalonians 1:5-6(NLT)
THE UPSIDE OF PERSECUTION
A poem and essay by ILMA
When people persecute you because of Jesus
Don’t be discouraged, you know that you are precious
He will make you overcome victory over your suffering
He will make you strong, so keep on praising Him.
He uses injustices in your life to grow your faith
Don’t ever give up; it will surely change your fate
Pray that you will remember Christ’s sacrifice for you
Seek his word and let your mind be constantly renewed.
________________________________________
When we get discriminated or marginalized, we automatically become defensive or shut down. The bible tells us to look at the upside of persecution. The book of James even tells us to be joyful when we have suffering because it can grow our faith. God allowed the Israelites to be slaves to the Egyptians so they can learn to become more trusting and dependent on him. Despite their unfaithfulness, he was guiding them day and night and patiently waiting for them to focus on him. He never left them. He longs for them to have victory over their strongholds and bondages. He allowed them to go through testing so they can overcome evil and be able to fulfill his plans for his own people.

PRAYER
Thank you for being faithful especially during trials.

KEEP ON PRAYING Poem Devotional

November 5

So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do. -2 Thessalonians 1:11(NLT)

KEEP ON PRAYING

A poem and essay by ILMA

When you are facing trials, keep on praying

The Lord is close to those who are suffering

When you need to make a decision, continue to ask

The Lord wants you to have wisdom and constantly trust.

Ask God that he will enable you to live a life that’s worthy

After all, He made you in his image and he is Almighty

May the Lord stir you to constantly ask in his name

It benefits your spirit to be humble and not ashamed.

How often do you pray? It is sad to know that even those who claim they are Christians never find time to pray or spend time with the Lord. No wonder, they go to the same mountains again and again and have not experienced breakthroughs. Many people think that praying is hard work and make an excuse that they won’t have the time to do so. This is the work of the enemy, to keep us away from asking and communicating with God in a personal way just like a little child would do. If we keep on praying, we will experience more miracles.

PRAYER

Lord, thank you for having the freedom to choose to always connect with you.

REFLECTION

How can praying make us more like our heavenly Father?

THE COUNTERFEIT Poem Devotional

November 4
________________________________________
This man will come to do the work of Satan with counterfeit power and signs and miracles. He will use every kind of evil deception to fool those on their way to destruction, because they refuse to love and accept the truth that would save them.
-2 Thessalonians 2:9-10(NLT)
THE COUNTERFEIT
A poem and essay by ILMA
Beware of the coming of the counterfeit
He works for Satan and he will steal and take
He will use all kinds of tactics to blind you
Make sure you walk in love and stay true.
There is power in the name of Jesus
Speak it and he will protect all who are precious
You have authority over evil if you believe in God
Declare his name and cover yourself with his blood.
________________________________________
In Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians, he explained that Christ could return at any moment but some believers misunderstood what it meant so he wrote a second letter to them explaining it. He meant to encourage them and not to give a detailed schedule for the future. He explained that no one really knows when the exact time of Christ’s return would be, but that he will return. In his letter he warned them of the counterfeit, the one who will disguise as someone with powers and deceive people that he can do miracles. Only those who won’t accept God’s truth will be deceived and believe his lies.
________________________________________
PRAYER
Lord, deliver me from counterfeits.
REFLECTION
How would you know if someone is a counterfeit? How do we expose them?

BLINDED BY INDIFFERENCE Poem Devotional

October 31
________________________________________
You say, “I am rich, I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing! And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.
– Revelation 3:17(NLT)
BLINDED BY INDIFFERENCE
A poem and essay by ILMA
Have you been walking independently from God?
Do you find time to worship and praise the Lord?
Are you thankful for everything you are given?
Do you focus on Jesus Christ, the Son who was risen?
Be humble and declare your needs to the Lord
Do not be blinded by indifference; seek God’s word
Bow down to the one who sacrificed his life for you
Rekindle your relationship with him so he can make you new.
________________________________________
A lot of people think that the opposite of love is hate. The word of God tells us that indifference is the opposite of love. “Indifference” is defined as lack of interest, concern or sympathy. Some synonyms of indifference are: emotionlessness, unconcern, apathy, passivity, nonchalance. Indifference is a spirit that blinds us to care and love for God and others. When a person’s motto is “I don’t care” we are probably going to find someone who lives an indifferent life. In Revelations 3, the church in Laodicea is being reproved for their indifference. In verse 19, we are called to be diligent which is the antidote to indifference. When we press on to continue to love despite all odds and hardships, we gain courage to continue to pursue a relationship with God and with others.

PRAYER
Lord, deliver me from apathy.

SPIRIT OF JEZEBEL Poem Devotional

October 30
________________________________________
You are permitting that woman-that Jezebel who calls herself a prophet to lead my servants astray. She teaches them to commit sexual sin and to eat food offered to idols.
– Revelation 2:20(NLT)
SPIRIT OF JEZEBEL
A poem and essay by ILMA
When the spirit of Jezebel is present
There is control, idolatry and sins of the flesh
Don’t allow this spirit to prevail in Christ’s body
It defiles God’s people who are living holy.
When you allow this spirit to thrive
It will destroy anything that has life
Rebuke in Jesus’ name this evil by exposing it
Scripture has power to cast it out and cleanse it.
________________________________________
1 King 16:29-32 gives us an account of how King Ahab began to rule over Israel and reigned in Samaria for twenty-two years. He married Jezebel and began to bow down in worship of Baal. He built a temple and altar for Baal in Samaria. In Kings 18:4-5, we get a picture of what kind of woman Jezebel was. She tried to kill all of the Lord’s prophets but Obadiah hid 100 prophets in two caves. She had been behind all of the plots to kill God’s people by controlling her husband. She was determined to annihilate God’s people and propagate the pagan god Baal. This Jezebel spirit lurking in people’s mind and heart, churches and relationships need to be casted out in Jesus’ name and blood. Let us shine Jesus light on this spirit.
________________________________________
PRAYER
Lord, deliver us from the Jezebel spirit and expose it when it manifests.

REWARD OF SUFFERING Poem Devotional

October 29
________________________________________
Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. The devil will throw some of you into prison to test you. You will suffer for ten days. But if you remain faithful even when facing death, I will give you the crown of life. – Revelations 2:10(NLT)
REWARD OF SUFFERING
A poem and essay by ILMA
Do you cringe when you have difficulties?
Be warned when the enemy attack your frailties
Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer
You always have the Spirit, who is your helper.
When you encounter tests and suffering
Be joyful for it help you to be constantly growing
Remain faithful to the Lord despite all of these anguish
You will enjoy the life eternal and you will be lavished.
________________________________________
Many people in our society today do not know how to deal with suffering. We react at the onset of something that is uncomfortable or anything that will pose a challenge or threat to our status quo. We like to get our way and what we want instantly. This is why we don’t have the wisdom or strength to endure pain or suffering. The book of James tells us that we have to be joyful when we encounter suffering because our faith has a chance to grow and we gain strength and endurance which will make us perfect and needing nothing (James 1:2-4). Revelations tells us to focus on the crown of life when suffering.
________________________________________
PRAYER
Thank you Lord for all the endurance you have granted me.

REFLECT THE GLORY OF THE LORD Poem Devotional

October 28
________________________________________
So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord who is Spirit makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. – 2 Corinthians 3:18(NLT)
REFLECT THE GLORY OF THE LORD
A poem and essay by ILMA
Are you a faithful follower of Jesus?
He wants you to know you are very precious
When he removes all of the veil that blinds you
You will be able to reflect a God who is glorious.
No human effort can make us imitate Christ
Only God’s Spirit can stir us and change our lives
The Lord wants us to become like him in all things
His Spirit knows and guides us how we can win over sins.
________________________________________
What is the true mark of an authentic Christian? Is that person someone who goes to church on Sunday and yet treats his family member unkindly? Is it someone who is a stickler to the church rules and yet continually judge people with his measuring stick? In Matthew 5:14-16, Jesus taught his followers that they are the salt and light of the earth. He says that if salt has lost its flavor, it is useless. He also tells us that no one lights a lamp and hides it. Paul tells us that believers must reflect the glory of the Lord by being salt and light of the earth.

PRAYER
Lord, cleanse my heart so I can always reflect your glory to the world.
