November 12 The Power of God’s Word
A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart. -Luke 6:45 (NLT)
WHAT YOU SAY FLOWS FROM YOUR HEART
A poem and essay by ILMA
What have you been saying these days?
Does it exhibit love and care?
Are they encouraging and helping others?
Do they bring you closer to your sisters and brothers?
What you say flows from what is in your heart
Avoid using words that break people apart
If you only speak the truth from God’s word
You will never be consumed or corrupted by this world.
How often have you said something that hurt others or has alienated someone from you? Words can make or break someone. This is why we are cautioned in the bible to watch what we say for it has a big effect on those who hear it.
The gospel of Luke stresses the importance of guarding your heart. It says that a good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart while an evil person brings out wickedness from an evil heart. What comes out of our mouth is a manifestation of the condition of our heart.
PRAYER
Lord, guard my heart so I can only utter words from your truth.
REFLECTION
Why is it important to free our hearts from corruption?

KNOWLEDGE VERSUS LOVE Poem Devotional
November 11 The Power of God’s Word
While knowledge makes us feel important, it is love that strengthens the church. Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn’t really know very much. But the person who loves God is the one whom God recognizes.
– 1 Corinthian 8:1-3 (NLT)
KNOWLEDGE VERSUS LOVE
A poem and essay by ILMA
Who among you can say that you know it all?
Seeking human wisdom can cause men to fall
While human knowledge makes us feel important
It also makes us farther away from God and arrogant.
Be wary of anyone who claims to know all the answers
Sooner or later, they will bump into blunders
The person who loves God and all his sisters and brothers
They get full recognition from the Lord than any other.
I was raised where affirmation and love was scarce. Belonging and acceptance were very strong needs that consumed my teenage and adult life. One of the ways I coped with this lack in my life, was to “perform” and pat my back for doing good. I thought then that if no one does it, I might as well fill that need. I wanted to be full of knowledge so I could get approval from others.
The truth is: Love is more important than knowledge. Love conquers and surpasses all things and it is the only thing that a Christian can’t be without.
PRAYER
Lord, let me choose love always.
REFLECTION
Why does God put more value in loving rather than knowing?

GIVE YOUR BURDENS TO GOD Poem Devotional
November 10 The Power of God’s Word
Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. – Psalm 55:22(NLT)
GIVE YOUR BURDENS TO GOD
A poem and essay by ILMA
Are you afraid of something or someone?
Have you been rejected or abused by anyone?
Has someone betrayed your confidence and trust?
Do you feel defeated, frustrated or downcast?
Give your burdens to the Lord and trust in him
No matter what your circumstance or how hopeless it seems
The Lord will not permit the godly to slip and fall
He is faithful to those who repent, confess and call.
What is in your heart lately? Is it an unsaved loved one, a marriage falling apart, a prodigal child, financial burdens or physical illnesses? We ought to pray and ask the Lord for guidance and strength to go through life’s challenges. He will never give you anything you cannot handle. He doesn’t also guarantee a trouble free life. In fact, the closer you are to God, the more tests you undergo. He wants to strengthen you for his greater glory.
A true believer cast his cares and burdens to the Lord while unbelievers tend to do things their own way. They heavily rely on themselves while believers trust and surrender all things to God. He works out things for good and never for bad.
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for your faithfulness.
REFLECTION
What burdens do you need to surrender to God today?

GODLY LIVES SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS Poem Devotional
November 9 The Power of God’s Word
Then if some refuse to obey the Good News, your godly lives will speak to them without any words. They will be won over by observing your pure and reverent lives. – 1 Peter 3:1-2 (NLT)
GODLY LIVES SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS
A poem and essay by ILMA
Who have you been sharing the Good News to?
Do they have difficulty listening to you?
If others refuse to hear what you say
Do you keep on prattling or resort to pray?
Your actions translate your beliefs
If your life is contrary to God’s will
You won’t be a good witness to his word
Be silent and let your life shine to this foolish world.
Have you been talking so much to others about God’s truth and not getting any further with it? The best way to draw people to God is not by words, but by how you live your life. It is good to hear the Good News but if the messenger’s life is in chaos, how can he or she give justice to the truth in the word of God?
The bible tells us that wives must submit to their husband’s authority. Believers are also expected to surrender their lives to Christ to be perfect example to others. Without words but living godly lives, they can bring more people to God’s kingdom.
PRAYER
Lord, give me a pure life to be a good witness to you.

THE WORD GIVES LIFE & LIGHT Poem Devotional
November 8 The Power of God’s Word
The word gave life to everything that was created and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness can never extinguish it. – John 1:4-5 (NLT)
THE WORD GIVES LIFE & LIGHT
A poem and essay by ILMA
The word of God has power to transform lives
It gives life and light and allows us to thrive
If you are amidst darkness and wickedness
Seek his word and you will pass the test.
God used words to give life to everything
He wants us to use it to overcome anything
Once the light has shone on darkness and evil
All will be exposed and you’ll be free from the tactics of the devil.
It must be frightening to be in a room where you can’t see even a little glimpse of light. Anything can happen in that darkness and you never know when and what will strike you. People who live in the dark are in bondage to the prince of this world, Satan.
The bible says that God created everything by breathing his word on it. His word practically gave life to all things. His word has power and can expose all the darkness because he brings light.
When you find yourself enveloped in darkness, run to his word, confess it aloud and the light will expose all evil activities lurking in it.
PRAYER
Lord, deliver me from evil.

WARN EACH OTHER Poem Devotional
November 7 The Power of God’s Word
You must warn each other every day while it is still today so that no one of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. – Hebrews 3:13 (NLT)
WARN EACH OTHER
A poem and essay by ILMA
If you are a believer, you will start to care for others
You wouldn’t let danger fall upon your sisters and brothers
Guide other believers when they are slowly falling into sin
Warn each other so you won’t be easily tempted and deceived.
You ought to watch each other’s heart from being hardened
Don’t ever let the enemy prey on your weaknesses unguarded
Stay alert and pray in the spirit at all times and on every occasion
Be persistent in your prayers for all believers and all their petitions.
The Hebrew word for “warn” is “zahar” which means to admonish, teach, shine, send out light, be light, be shining. The Hebrew definition of the word signifies care and love as a cause to warn someone. If you don’t care for someone, there is no need to warn.
The bible says that we must warn each other every day while it is still today so no one will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. Satan always preys and steals our peace and joy. Diligence in examination of our heart is important in order to overcome evil.
PRAYER
Lord, convict me when to warn others and myself.

TEACH AND COUNSEL EACH OTHER Poem Devotional
November 6 The Power of God’s Word
Let the message about Christ in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.– Colossians 3:16 (NLT)
TEACH AND COUNSEL EACH OTHER
A poem and essay by ILMA
As you embrace God’s will and truth
He expects you to teach and bear fruit
The word of God is given so you can share and mature
It has power to transform lives and help you and others endure.
Teach and counsel each other with all God’s wisdom
He will use you so he can further his kingdom
Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to the Lord
It is one way of thanking him and giving him applaud.
I feel loved and special when someone gives me a gift, especially if it was something well thought of. It is not really the gift that matters but the act of thoughtfulness. I want to give someone in return for the gift I received. Somehow, I feel that I have shared what I got if I make someone feel special too.
The bible tells us that when we receive the Good News of Christ, we are expected to teach it to others. We are also expected to give thanks and praise to God through psalms, spiritual songs and hymns.
PRAYER
Lord, give me courage to teach and counsel.

HOW TO GROW FAITH Poem Devotional
November 5 The Power of God’s Word
Let your roots grow down into him and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. – Colossians 2:7NLT)
HOW TO GROW FAITH
A poem and essay by ILMA
One cannot please God without faith
It is by believing that we are saved
As you accept Christ, continue to follow his ways
A relationship with him protects you from being swayed.
Let your roots grow down by focusing on his truth
Seeking and obeying his word lead to the Spirit’s fruit
Your faith will grow strong and you will overflow with thankfulness
You will find hope amidst this world’s trials and challenges.
Jeremiah 17:8 talks about the trees planted along the riverbank with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green and they never stop producing fruit. If we focus and get rooted in the truth of God’s word, we will have a deeply rooted foundation and we will not be tossed easily by the wind and forces around us. In Colossians 2:7, Paul emphasizes the importance of building our lives on Jesus. He is the cornerstone of a strong faith. Without him, we will be confused, chaotic and lost.
PRAYER
Lord, help me grow my faith in you.

PARTICIPATING IN CHRIST’S BODY Poem Devotional
November 4 The Power of God’s Word
I am glad when I suffer for you in my body, for I am participating in the suffering of Christ that continue for his body, the church. – Colossians 1:24 (NLT)
PARTICIPATING IN CHRIST’S BODY
A poem and essay by ILMA
When you experience pain, remember Christ who died for you
Recall how much beatings and humiliation he endured
Reflect on how much betrayal and abuse he went through
He did it all to clear you of sin so you can have a breakthrough.
Be glad when you are in pain, you are partaking of his body
He wants you to look at it as an opportunity
He wants you to embrace suffering and rely on his grace
He will never forsake you that is what the bible says.
Suffering is defined by the dictionary as the state of undergoing pain, distress or hardship. On the other hand, the Hebrew definition of suffering is “nasa or nasah” meaning to lift, carry, take. Notice the difference in the worldly view definition against the Hebrew meaning. One connotes burden, while the other emphasizes the act of lifting or carrying. One is pessimistic, the other optimistic.
The bible tells us that we should be glad when we suffer because we are given an opportunity to participate in the body of Christ which is an ongoing journey.
PRAYER
Lord, remind me to take “suffering” as a chance to grow.

WITNESSING FOR THE LORD Poem Devotional
November 3 The Power of God’s Word
I will not die. Instead, I will live to tell what the Lord has done.
– Psalm 118:17(NLT)
WITNESSING FOR THE LORD
A poem and essay by ILMA
Is your life geared to seek pleasure?
Do you consider God’s word as your treasure?
Have you given up your old life and put on the new?
Do you still struggle with troubles and rue?
The Lord created you to demonstrate his glory
Do you live up to his image and reveal his beauty?
Live your life telling others what the Lord has done
It is the only way you can emulate his one and only Son.
I went through many decades of my life trying to figure out what my purpose in life was. I wished someone would have witnessed for the Lord in my growing years and guided me to the truth instead of being swallowed up by the world’s system. God’s spirit was with me since I declared him as my friend and Father at age seven. He lived in me and guided me subtly without my conscious knowing that all that I was going through would be my testimony for his kingdom later in life. The bible tells us to not be consumed by the world but to live to tell others what the Lord has done. Has your life been a testimony to the Lord’s greatness?
PRAYER
Lord, thank you for all my experiences.
