ILMA ARTS STUDIO

July 1, 2010

Volume 1, Issue 1

TURN PAINTING OR PHOTO INTERESTS  TO  ARTWORKS

ILMA ARTS STUDIO is located along Diane Drive, a few blocks away from Brown's Farm Park also on Diane near Oxford Street. The park was established in 1974 and named after the Brown family's dairy farm to commemorate the last working farm inside the original town limits.  The earliest settlers on this parkland were John and Jane Corbit who arrived here in 1829. That gives the studio a touch of Orangeville history.  Ilma Barayuga-Doherty started her  career in Art Teaching in 1994 in her own Angel Isis Studio. In 1996 after her first solo exhibit, she was offered to teach Art and Photography  to high school students at  St. Scholastica’s College in Manila. She left in 2005 to migrate to Canada. More than 2000 students have learned to sketch, paint and photographed in over one decade of Art Teaching career.  She continues to share her art skills in Orangeville that began in  2007.  She is the  Children’s Ministry Leader  of St. John’s Church in Highway 9, just east of Orangeville since 2008.

She has a natural  attraction to children and anyone who is a child at heart. The vast age range she handled in her country of origin from ages 4-85 years old just shows how comfortable and adept she is at bringing out the potentials in anyone interested to learn art.  She believes that in everyone, an artist lies within. She offers classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays , 1:30-3PM. Registration starts July 5. You could make arrangements if you have  conflicts with the said schedules. She will accommodate anyone eager to learn. Please call 519-941-4533 for reservations and inquiries.

 MOODS

It comes in trickles

In moments of sizzles

When one don’t fickle

Then it goes in a flicker.

  CATHARSIS

Emotions caged inside

All these years of stride

Shutters, pens & brushes slide

To create works of pride.

WAITING FOR LOVE

Catching my breathe

Heart is all pounding

And mind all spinning

Sitting, waiting for love.

BLAMELESS LIFE

Life’s full of pain

But we expect in vain

That somehow we’ll gain

A life without blame.

Text Box: ILMA’S POEMS

Techpen Art is a coined word I used for short cut of Technical Pen. I actually like using Pilot V5 or V7 Hi-Techpoint pen which is pure liguid ink in a neat pen. It is neat, clean and doesn’t smudge or blot. I have used it for over 10 years now and is a favorite of my art collectors. Convergences of swirly and straight lines that build shapes, textures and tones is a technique I employ on my drawings. Having two or three different perspective in one subject conveys my childlike viewpoint of things around me. Architectural facades, street scenes, landscapes and foliage stir me most. The smooth rubbing of the sides of my hands with the paper as I turn and move the techpen to compose my subjects, inspires me to create.  If you look closely at my works, the textured parts would show you a group of number 8 intertwined together. I use this technique called “swirly eights” to build up textures for foliage. I like to contrast this swirls with straight or diagonal lines and create harmony and balance in my drawings. If you want me to commission a techpen art of your house facades or interior, please call 519-941-4533.
